The American Cancer Society is gearing up for its annual Relay for Life. The event is the signature activity of the American Cancer Society. The Relay celebrates cancer survivors, remembers those lost to the disease and helps raise funds to continue the fight against cancer.
Relay for Life is an overnight family-oriented, community event where teams collect donations and then walk around a track for 18-hours. While not walking, team members’ campout around the track. Participants will decorate their campsites to represent this year’s theme – “Cancer Is Not A Game.”
Relay for Life is April 18th – 19th at the Lee County Sports Complex. The Relay begins with the “Survivor’s Lap” at 6:00 p.m., followed by the “Caregiver’s Lap” at 8:00 p.m. and at 9:00 p.m. a Luminaria Ceremony will take place. Candles will be lit in remembrance of those who have lost their battle with cancer and in honor of survivors.
Since 1946, the American Cancer Society has funded more than $3.1 Billion in cancer research. Every dollar raised goes toward fighting Cancer. Contributions to the Relay for Life help fight cancer through research, education, advocacy and patient services. Media is invited to attend.
